Although some were eager to just brush up on their first aid skills and get to grips with the "in's and out's" of CPR again, others were rookies who wouldn’t know the difference between a splint and a tourniquet, but all of us had one thing in common – the next time we find ourselves facing a medical emergency, we would be well equipped to know our ABC’s from our CAB’s..!! (C=Circula on, A=Airway, B=Breathing).
Some of the topics covered on the day were: Legal and ethical issues, patient evacuation, scene survey and management, patient assessment, vital signs, treating shock, burn classification and treatment, wounds and blisters, Fractures and dislocations, improvising splints, CPR techniques, using a tourniquet and many other topics were covered.
Feedback from attendees was positive and the LROC committee has decided to incorporate this training into the LROC training program going forward with some minor revisions and more focus on prac cal exercises and improvisa on of equipment.
