This was the club's 3rd year at Willem's Rus and on request, we have booked it for a month later, hoping for cool weather. All sites were taken. I was looking forward to two vehicles, ea. Hennie Steyn's Forward Control and Alan Cotton's freshly restored Series 1 107. Unfortunately, the Forward Control had to return home due to a water leak, but the stunning 107 arrived on Friday afternoon. Alan restored it by the book, rivets and everything else. Alan assured me, that although it took effort, time and money to restored it, it will be used.
We all spent the Saturday driving through the reserve, visiting restaurants for coffee and lunch. The heavy rains from the past few weeks were evident with roads in and out of reserve in dire need for repairs. Some roads still close due the muddy conditions. The bush as thick and dense as not seen in the previous 3 years.
We spent time together around the braai and Kalahari TV with the bush's soundtrack in background.
Hope to see you under the big tree once again.
