Due to heavy rain prior to the weekend, the planned game drive on Saturday morning was abandoned, the owner not wanting damage to his property due the very muddy conditions.
Then the sun came out and the rest of the day looked good. To the delight of all the children Father Christmas arrived on time on the back of a Landy. It was smiles all round as the presents were opened and families sat around watching the kids having fun.
Soon it was time for the long awaited communal braai. The skies were blue and the fires alight, but within 45 minutes of lighting them the heavens opened up and down came the rain with members scurrying to hold down tents and gazebos as the wind created havoc. The rain continued well into the night with hail falling in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The campsite was a disaster zone the next morning when the rain eventually subsided, tents flooded, bedding, clothes and everything else soaked. Soon the campsite looked like a flea-market, as belongings were being packed out in the sun to dry. The annual kiddies trial was likewise abandoned as the coarse was just too wet, even recovering the poles planted the day before became a mission.
But despite this all, the weekend was enjoyed by all. An executive decision was then made that the kiddies
trial would be postponed and not cancelled and was held along with the Summer trail 2 weeks ago.
A quick thanks to all who joined us, Alida for arranging the presents, Collin for making the kids smile and a big thanks to Lizette for organizing the weekend.
See you all next year.
Wish we had some photos of the ducks swimming in the tents and in the water around camp. Boy was the weather eventful, but the sun came out at just the right time so the kids could meet Father Christmas and receive their gifts. Overall a great weekend!
