Saturday was busy with both the driver training and those that did the eco trial. The trial was set up during the afternoon with the help of Mike Carver and the Bothas. Thank you for your assistance. Johan from Kungwini assisted in identifying a suitable area for the trial and was very interested in the way our club did the layout.
We experienced excellent rain on Saturday night which is befitting for a Spring Trial. The rain did put a damper on the group braai's, but most managed to get their supper done in true Landy improvising ways. The camping area is rustic in a good way, there is ample shade and the ablutions functioned well with the staff looking after it from early in the mornings.
A few repairs had to be performed to the layout of the trial on Sunday morning, but we were fortunate in that the layout was still useable. Certain sections became easier due to the rain, but the overall difficulty was still good.
The Trial started a bit late on Sunday morning due to most participants walking the gates before the official briefing. One area had to be reworked with a spade, but this fortunately happened with the first vehicle on the trial and nobody was advantaged or disadvantaged in the process. Thanks to the marshals for handling those situations in a controlled manner and for volunteering for this thankless job during trials. Feedback received was that the participants enjoyed the event, even though we didn’t have the traditional deep mud associated with Spring Trials. The club also wish to thank Kungwini management in the friendly manner in which we were received and the special rates offered to LROC. A special thanks to Johan with all the assistance and patience with our club and members.
We also wish to thank Kustomart (www.kustomart.co.za) for sponsoring the trophies for the event. Ferdi and Phelicia from Kustomart joined us for the day and handed over the new trophies to Lizette our trophy secretary.
