June 2018 Paradors Game Farm

16 June 2018 - Ed Grosvenor
Paradors is a 4000 hectare game farm is situated in the heart of the Mara valley, it is a hidden treasure that lies about 50 km east of Nelspruit in absolutely beautiful bushveld surroundings. The game farm is run by owners Jan and Hetta Nel and the name "Paradors" was given the farm by Jan's grandfather who claimed that all the frogs in the area were very thirsty!

Three of the Lowveld Chapter members braved the camping of cold winter evenings and beautiful warm days Koos de Wet from Lydenburg with his "McGyver", 650 000+ km 110 Defender, Rolf and Bettie from Hectorspruit as well as Ed Grosvenor in their Puma 90's and 4X4 fold-up/4X4 caravans.

On the Saturday it was great to see Daan and Tillie Loubser who gave us a surprise visit in their 130 Defender.
Jan, the owner, provided us with a massive supply of fire wood and we had wonderful evenings of "lekker gesels" till late into the night We woke up in the mornings to the sound of a Fish Eagle’s calling and the sight of warthog family coming for breakfast.

As Paradors reserve is "self drive" we made a few excursions into the bush on fairly good middlemannetjie roads where one can see buffalo, giraffe, kudu, blue wildebeest, impala, zebra and many more.

Ed also took his kayak and managed to catch quite a few small bass albeit the cold water that kept the big ones at bay.
