Driver Training

05 October 2019 - Brendon Lowe
Saturday the 5th of October 2019 was the last driver training session for the year.

On Saturday morning 5th October we completed our last driver training session for the year ie. Module 1: Fundamentals of off-road driving at 4x4Kungwini near Bronkhorstspruit. Training commenced in the lapa at about 09h00 and in total there were 2 vehicles and 3 trainees in attendance who were eager to improve their general off-roading skills and explore the capabilities of their vehicles. This module was co-presented by Jakob Jordaan and myself which started out with some theoretical training in the morning and ended with lots of practical driving later in the afternoon. What made this venue even more exciting was that the obstacles are properly laid out and well suited to a training environment – trainees could practice the ‘Ascent abort/reverse start’ procedure over and over until they were completely confident in doing it correctly!

4x4Kungwini has two main courses – a purpose designed ‘Training’ course and a graded ‘Academy’ course which allowed us to ease the trainees into the obstacles by first getting them familiar with the controls and features of their vehicles and then throwing them in the deep end on the advanced course. Both drivers and co-drivers were much more confident in their vehicles’ and their own abilities by the end of the day.

The day ended at about 15h30 and all attendees received their Module 1 attendance certificates. Many thanks to those that attended and especially to Jakob for his assistance in presenting this module.
