Autumn Trial

25 March 2017 - Hennie Steyn
My first trail as the newly appointed Clerk of Events was a bit of a challenge, but was a success thanks to the support of the Blikkies. The available terrain had limited options due to it being very wet and mostly square holes more suited to the extreme pipe car brigade. Both Christo and myself got stuck while laying out the trail.

The idea with this trail was to simulate real-life situations and provide the participants with the opportunity to get to know their vehicle and own capability. Those that partook would have noticed that a lot of the gates were wider than they are used to. This is to get the participants to think and plan their line through the obstacle. This trail might have seemed a bit easy to the more experienced drivers, but was challenging to the new members.

Members are to note that the classes are now only short wheel base and long wheel base vehicles. The gender based differentiation has been removed as the ease of operating the current generation of vehicles partaking has removed the reason for gender based class differentiation.

I promise that the future trails will cater for both the novice and the experienced drivers. The members must provide me with feedback after trails in order to improve the experience for them at future trails. I thank everyone that attended and specifically the members that assisted with the setup, marshalling and clean-up.

Malonjeni has very nice camping and the group that camped enjoyed the nice facilities. The original plan was to use the bush camp, but the group were moved to the main camp due to bush camp being booked for a bachelors party.

Well done to the first winners of our "non-gender specific" trial winners:

SWB
- Brian Norie
LWB - Mike Eager
