Trailblaze returns on Saturday, 31 October, with a new destination and a full day of 4x4 adventure at At se Gat, situated beside the Crocodile River in the Krokodilpoort area, approximately 10 kilometres outside Brits on the R511 towards Thabazimbi.
With its beautiful river scenery, rocky terrain, water crossings and technical obstacles, At se Gat offers an excellent opportunity for LROC members to explore what their Land Rovers can do while developing their off-road driving skills.
This is a trail for thoughtful driving rather than unnecessary bravado. Participants will be encouraged to assess each obstacle, consider their vehicle's capabilities and choose their lines carefully. Obstacles can be inspected on foot before being attempted, giving drivers the opportunity to understand the terrain and decide how best to approach each challenge.
As always, the spirit of Trailblaze is about learning, teamwork and camaraderie. Drivers and spotters can work together to negotiate the terrain safely, share experience and help one another along the way. Whether you enjoy the technical challenges or simply appreciate exploring somewhere new with fellow Land Rover enthusiasts, there should be plenty to enjoy.
One of At se Gat's distinctive features is its close relationship with the Crocodile River. The route includes a rocky water crossing near the main facilities, while access to the Island section depends on the river level.
Water levels can fluctuate with rainfall across the catchment and the operation of the Hartbeespoort Dam sluice gates. The final route will therefore be determined closer to the event, taking account of prevailing conditions and the venue's guidance.
Participants should be prepared for the possibility of getting their feet wet, so suitable footwear or gumboots are recommended.
The changing terrain — from rock and sand to loose soil and water — makes this a worthwhile opportunity to practice wheel placement, controlled driving and sound decision-making in a scenic setting.
Participants should arrive with:
A roadworthy, serviceable low-range 4x4
Suitable recovery equipment
Drinking water and food for the day
Sun protection
Suitable footwear for potentially wet conditions
Further details regarding the meeting time, booking arrangements, final equipment requirements and the day's programme will be communicated through the Club's official channels.
Please note that the venue does not permit pets, weapons, quad bikes, motorcycles or unnecessarily noisy vehicles, in consideration of neighbouring wildlife properties. Members are asked to respect these conditions and help maintain the responsible trail etiquette expected of LROC participants.
At se Gat promises a rewarding combination of beautiful scenery, varied terrain, technical challenges and great company. Bring your Land Rover, your sense of adventure and a willingness to learn, and join us for another memorable LROC Trailblaze.
