Saturday 11 October
07:30 Meet at Total Services, Heidelberg (N3 South)
08:00 Depart in convoy to Grootvlei Battlesite (26 Dec 1900), continuing to the Whisky Train Incident site (29 Dec 1900) with stops at historic monuments.
09:30 Breakfast at the historic Val Hotel – site of peace talks and SA’s smallest village (as seen on Carte Blanche).
10:30 Head north with stops at gravesites of Canadian/British VC winners and a Boer general’s farmhouse.
12:00 Visit Standerton Concentration Camp & Military Cemetery
12:45 Depart to Ermelo
14:00 Arrive in Ermelo to visit historic sites including a blockhouse and Boer memorials
15:00 Travel to Chrissiesmeer and check in at the historic John Jack Inn (former officers’ mess). Free time to explore the scenic and safe village. Each room has a wood burner or fireplace.
Sunday 12 October
08:30 After breakfast, depart for Carolina and its heritage buildings
10:00 Visit Leliefontein Battle Site and Boer memorial (funded by a British general)
10:30 Proceed to Geluk Battlefield (Boer ambush site)
12:00 Refreshments at Belfast Engen
12:30 Visit Middelburg Cemetery – one of SA’s most unique, with graves of war heroes, writers, and veterans
13:30 Depart back to Gauteng

Accommodation: John Jack Inn, max 13 rooms (26 people), no pets (farmland). Double/twin sharing. Limited single rooms – request early. One 3-sleeper room available at a partner guesthouse.
