Spooky Spookspruit will be our hosts for the annual Night trial and recovery training, allowing an opportunity to explore the more southern reaches of Gauteng with friends, family and fellow Land Rover enthusiasts. Spookspruit 4x4 is situated a mere 80km from central Johannesburg, this short drive soon finds you meandering between trees into a dense riverbed eventually veering off to the well equipped campsite.
Recovery training takes place the Saturday and provides perhaps some of the most important information and skills needed to safely and effectively extract a struck vehicle from various predicaments. Having the knowledge to safely extract a vehicle will improve many off-roading experiences by reducing stress and time needed when the inevitability of getting stuck rears its head.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the wilderness nightlife while experiencing the unique experience of off-roading in low light conditions. The night trial is the ideal opportunity to get to know your vehicle and how its lights affects reading obstacles and depth perception. As always it promises to be a fun filled event under the supervision and guidance of your trusted LROC officials.
Sat, 24 August 8:30am - Driver Training - Module 3: Recovery Training
Driver training will be focusing on theory and practical sessions pertaining to the safe and effective use of recovery equipment and techniques. A course vital for all off-road explorers who venture into the unknown. We will be discussing the various different recovery equipment available and how it can be used safely with your particular vehicle. Proper technique will be practiced in a safe environment that allows each member to gain confidence in his or her ability.
Sat, 24 August 8:30am - Mountain Drive
Spookspruit 4x4 is one of the more challenging trails in Gauteng. It is known for its technical driving and is rated at between 3-5. There are however escape routes to the more serious obstacles for those who wish to enjoy the scenery without fear of vehicle damage. The trail goes up into the Suikerbosrand koppies to provide some great views. The trail was designed is such a way to disturb the least amount of flora possible so expect to creep by some interesting trees and shrubbery.
Sat, 24 August 5pm - Night Trial
The night trial is an exciting and well anticipated event that allows participants the unique experience of driving over arduous terrain during low light conditions. An important lesson in just how different an obstacle is when attempted at night with only the vehicles direct light to guide you.
