If you are interested in going beyond more than just street navigation and want to explore travel into the outdoors, off-road and the unknown, then this training day is just for you. We will focus on planning such trips with the help of Garmin’s computer software called Basecamp. By the end of the day you should be in a position to plan, manage, record, store, share, upload and download both your planned and completed trips between your computer and your Garmin GPS device. Best of all, you will know how to share all your trip information via email with your family and friends!

We will cover mainly Garmin devices, Garmin Maps and Garmin software (Basecamp). The talk will briefly cover GPS terminology, GPS tools and GPS maps. After a brief introduction the talk will get into more detail on manipulating travel-adventure with the Garmin Basecamp software. The day will be packed with practical applications of the software where you will have the opportunity to manipulate navigation data on Basecamp (on your computer/laptop/notebook) and then experience a practical outdoor adventure using your Garmin device. Join us for an exciting day using Basecamp to plan your next overlanding trip. For the day you will need to bring:

  • Your laptop or PC pre-loaded with Basecamp (freely downloadable off the Garmin website)
  • Your Laptop power cable
  • A 220V extension lead
  • Your Laptop to Garmin device interface cable, if not Bluetooth interfaced
  • Your Garmin GPS loaded with any suitable routing software/maps (See note below for types of GPS’s)
  • Chair, table, pen, notepad, walking shoes and a hat

NOTE: The following Outdoor, Handheld and All Terrain types of Garmin GPS’s are most suitable for use with Basecamp and if you own any of these please bring them along: GPSMAP, Montana, inReach, Oregon, eTrek, Dakota, Monterra

After the training we plan to socialize around the braai fires, so bring what you need if you want to join us and don’t forget your refreshments!

As we are limited to 20 persons max, bookings are essential.
