Although this is advertised as a Driver Training and Mountain Drive weekend, those that have already done their DT certificate and would only want to spend the weekend to do the Mountain Drive, are most welcome.  You can come over to RdW and spend the whole weekend camping from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon.  You won’t be disappointed with the camping ground and facilities!

We are going back to the ever-so-popular Rust de Winter venue.  It is a 26,97ha camp site situated on the banks of the Elands River and it is believed that you will find the biggest “Apiesdoring” trees in the southern hemisphere here. Some of these trees are over 300 years old.  It offers awesome lawn camping grounds with lots of shade and great warm water ablution facilities.  There is ample space on the camping grounds for kids to play, run or cycle around!  It is an amazing camping experience for the whole family!

The Driver training session will be on the Saturday and held in the Gymkhana area which offers some of the best and most diversified technical driving and training obstacles that is available in one venue.  There are toilet facilities available in the Gymkhana area and you need to provide your own toilet paper.

The registration and indemnity paperwork will start at 08h30 and the Driver Training will start promptly at 09h00.

This Recovery module is ideal for members who want to learn more about the different kinds of recovery equipment and how to correctly and safely handle recovery situations, which could be dangerous if a vehicle is seriously stuck.  The training will focus on all the theoretical aspects of equipment, recovery and safety practises in the morning session.  After the theoretical session we will take a short lunch break.  The afternoon session is all about the opportunity to put the morning’s theoretical session in practise with a real-life recovery situation under the competent supervision of the Club’s Driver Trainers.

You will need to bring a hat, sunblock, chair, pen & notice book, drinking water and something for lunch (No fires are allowed in the Gymkhana area).  If you have your own gloves and recovery gear we suggest you bring that along.

Recovery equipment will be on sale from our trailer so if you want to buy anything, we can accommodate cards or EFT.

If you are interested to attend, please ensure you book and pay in advance on the Club’s website by no later than Wednesday 30 June.  This enable us to send you the training notes in advance which you need to bring with you on the day.

Book now to avoid disappointment! We are limited to 15 people for this training and booking is handled on a first-pay-fist-serve basis.

The Mountain Drive will be on the Sunday and we will get together at 08h30 between the entrance gate and the payment office to do indemnity, registration admin and the briefing session.

The Mountain Drive will start strictly at 09h00 and everybody  should be back at Rust de Winter around 15h00. You will need to bring your own recovery gear, enough drinking water for all your passengers and something to munch for the picnic at the top.  Please note no fires or alcoholic beverages will be allowed at the picnic spot or during the drive.  Rust de Winter might cancel the Mountain Drive if we have less that 10 vehicles going on the drive but generally that is not a problem, because of the popularity of the outing!

We are planning to do a self-drive where the passengers will be issued with a rally layout map of the mountain drive route and each Landy will have the opportunity to drive on their own, leaving in 5 minute intervals.  Just to make sure nobody will get lost, we will have Marshalls positioned along the route at the technical spots and to help out if needed and to ensure everybody will  get back to camp safely.  The last time we did this type of Mountain drive it turned out to be good fun!

This is for sure a weekend not to be missed.  Pack your Landy, load the family and come camp, “kuier” and braai with amazing fellow Landy Club members.

See you at Rust de Winter!
