This weekend is an amazing break away from the concrete jungle.  We are going back to the ever-so-popular Rust de Winter venue.  It is a 26,97ha campsite situated on the banks of the Elands River and it is believed that you will find the biggest “Apiesdoring” trees in the southern hemisphere here. Some of these trees are over 300 years old!  It offers awesome lawn camping grounds with lots of shade and great warm water ablution facilities.  There is ample space on the camping grounds for kids to play, run or cycle around!  It is about sitting around a campfire under the stars, talking about Landy travels and stuff and meeting new friends!  Whether you come out for the weekend to do the Driver Training on the Saturday, to drive and play around to test yourself and your Landy, doing the Mountain Drive on the Sunday or just to spend the weekend chilling and doing nothing, you won’t be disappointed.  It is an amazing camping experience for the whole family!

Kindly note that all attendees to either the campsite of the Gymkhana area need to take their rubbish back home with them as there are no rubbish bins at Rust de Winter.

The Saturday is allocated for the Driver Training and Practical learning session.  The Driver training session will be held in the Gymkhana area which offers some of the best and most diversified technical driving and training obstacles that is available in one venue.  There are toilet facilities available in the Gymkhana area and you need to provide your own toilet paper.

What makes this Driver Training module good fun is that we spend some time on the fundamentals of how your Landy works as well as a few interesting driving techniques and things to consider when you go off the road.  Then we go out to drive, play and test all the things that we spoke about in the theoretical session, under the guidance of our experienced Club Driver Trainers!

You will need to bring a hat, sunblock, chair, pen & notebook, drinking water and something for lunch (No fires are allowed in the Gymkhana area).  If you have your own gloves and recovery gear we suggest you bring that along.

Recovery equipment will be on sale from our trailer so if you want to buy anything, we can accommodate cards or EFT.

If you are interested to attend, please ensure you book and pay in advance on the Club’s website before the payment cut-off date, listed above.  This enables us to send you the training notes in advance which you’ll need to bring with you on the day.

The registration and indemnity paperwork for the Driver Training session will start at 08h30 in the Gymkhana area and the Driver Training will start promptly at 09h00.  We should be finished by 16h00.

The Sunday is allocated for a Mountain Drive, which offers the most amazing views from the mountain top.  You will need to bring your own recovery gear, your VHF two-way radio (if you have one), enough drinking water for all your passengers and something to munch on for the picnic at the top.  Please note no fires or alcoholic beverages will be allowed at the picnic spot or during the drive.  Kindly note that Rust de Winter might cancel the Mountain Drive if we have less that 10 vehicles going on the drive, but generally that is not a problem, because of the popularity of the outing!

We are planning to do a self-drive where the passengers will be issued with a rally layout map of the mountain drive route and each Landy will have the opportunity to drive on their own, leaving in 5 minute intervals.  Just to make sure nobody will get lost, we will have Marshalls positioned along the route at the technical spots and to help out if needed and to ensure everybody will  get back to camp safely.  The last time we did this type of Mountain drive it turned out to be good fun!

For the Mountain Drive we will get together at 08h30 between the entrance gate and the payment office to do indemnity, registration admin and the briefing session.  The Mountain Drive will start strictly at 09h00 and everybody  should be back at the campsite around 15h00.

This is for sure a weekend not to be missed.  Pack your Landy, load the family and join us for camping, braaiing, bonfiring, and “kuiering” with amazing fellow Landy Club members.

NOTE : The tar road to Rust de Winter is badly potholed (take it slowly!) so please factor in an extra 15mins of time for this and the admin process at reception

See you at Rust de Winter!
