As most of the members are aware, 2020 is the 60th Year of the LROC of SA
That calls for a huge celebration! We will celebrate the foresight of the founder members, and the efforts and support of every past and current member of the club, with an event of note. Our vision is to assemble a minimum of 100 Land Rover Families to enjoy using our vehicles and the company of fellow members. This is our Diamond Jubilee event in September, coincidentally over the “Heritage Day” long-weekend.
For this auspicious event we return to Sandstone Estates near Ficksburg in the Free State. Many members are familiar with the venue as we have been there on several occasions in the past. This scenic venue offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country and we have the best scenic drives as well as some awesome 4x4 routes for members to enjoy.
Onsite, the Sandstone Heritage Trust offers members the opportunity to view their extensive collection of narrow-gauge steam trains, military vehicles, stationary engines, farming equipment (especially vintage tractors), for which Sandstone is famous world-wide. If our plans work out, there will even be an opportunity for us to ride one of the steam trains from Hoekfontein’s vintage station.
On the Saturday evening there will be a catered celebratory dinner and a great chance to socialise with the other families.
The weekend program includes:
Fri 19, March
Members arrive and set up camp. Members can view the trains and other equipment onsite.
Sat 20, March
Drive scenic trails and 4x4 routes
Sun 21, March
Starts with a mass photo shoot for all the vehicles, then members can drive the scenic trails and 4x4 routes, and ends with the Jubilee Dinner and festivities.
Mon 22, March
Members strike camp and return home.
More activities will be announced as these arrangements are concluded with the operators.
Come and join us for a never to be forgotten Land Rovering experience…
