The LROC is dedicated to ensuring its members have access to the best possible driver training available on a non-commercial basis and within the normal time constraints. To this effect the LROC has a program which is constantly being improved and refined. Training is offered FREE of CHARGE to members (except where venue fees are payable to the venue owner) and covers the following main areas:
Understanding the mechanicals of your Land Rover
Here we educate our members to understand the mechanical workings of the various Land Rover vehicles from Series 1 up to Discovery 3. This knowledge leads to a full understanding why the Landy IS the best 4x4xfar!
Driving techniques
Instruction is provided on how to best cope with ascents, descents, rocky terrain, mud, water, sand, sideways inclines, etc.
Recovery techniques
We encourage our members to get stuck! The reasons are:
1) To eliminate the fear of getting stuck.
2) To learn where the limits of your vehicle are.
3) To afford others the opportunity of practising their recovery skills.
4) To learn that when you think you are stuck, applying the correct techniques could get you out without recovery.
Should recovery be the only solution we teach our members in the skills of winching, recovery by snatch rope, use of the high-lift jack, tyre repair, etc.
Other areas
The curriculum will be expanded with time to include basic use of GPS, 1st aid, environmental awareness, camping techniques, etc.
Theoretical lectures are complemented with demonstration and practical experience. A day is simply too short to fit everything in and this is why the LROC's Trials events serve to COMPLEMENT the driver training programme as this is where much practical experience can be gained.
You are therefore invited to join us in training. Look out for the dates and venues in the LROC News newsletters and Events Calendar.
